Abstract
Engineering laboratories ask students to connect mathematical and physical ideas with the behaviour of real systems. This presentation examines how virtual laboratories can support that connection through game-based learning. Two case studies, in mechanical and computer engineering, illustrate an approach that connects learning activities with subject-specific objectives and attention to student progression. The discussion considers how to balance engaging interaction with the depth of understanding engineering requires, drawing on collaborative development across three UK institutions.
