Abstract
How might wearable sensing help us understand the positions people adopt during sleep? This workshop talk introduces the motivation for studying in-bed posture and the challenges of turning a small set of inertial measurements into useful information about body configuration. It discusses the role of computational modelling and machine learning in exploring recognition methods when labelled sleep data are limited. A digital-health perspective connects these technical foundations with the longer-term questions that more detailed posture measurements could help investigate.
